Pennsylvania Forest Management

This section provides background information and hands-on, interdisciplinary activities in four areas. We will give you a snapshot of several methods used to manage Pennsylvania forests from silvicultural practices to harvesting practices, including regeneration cuttings, even-age management, selection, etc. You will learn about federal and state regulations governing timber harvesting practices. Students will discuss issues pertaining to logging, deer damage, water quality, etc. This section will help you to understand the complexities involved in managing land for multiple uses. Finally, we will take a look at how education plays an important part in helping forest managers and private land owners make sound decisions concerning land use.
